How to judge a VCO performance?

I have a VCO component . how can i judge this VCO performance to meet my needs , such as phase noise, pushing and pulling figure, tuning frequency range, etc.... . and what's reference spurious ? I am a newer for VCO design , pls give me some suggestion .
