Does anyone know if there is a digitally controlled trimmer capacitor out there. I vauguely remember such a thing designed for automated tuning of RF circuits, where you blow a small flash rom on-board to store the final capacitor value. But I can not find it anywhere.

Yeah, that is it exactly. When you program that thing once, will it hold that same programming for years with the DC power on and off many times? Or do you need to reprogramm at each DC power up. The data sheet is not that clear on it.
Added after 3 hours 47 minutes:
For anyone that is interested, the maxim chip has to be reprogrammed at each DC startup. There is an Intersil chip that has a nonvolatile memory.
