How to test CW25-TIM GPS module that is connected through RS232 ?
Can anyone please tell how to test that GPS module.?
and please tell what is meant by the 1PPS signal of the GPS.
By reading that signal through the software, can we test the GPS?
Thanks in advance
Puneet
Hi Puneet,
1 PPS = 1 pulse per second
all GPS engines produce this and a number of them also have a 10kHz output too which is very handy for disciplining external 10MHz oscillators with appropriate circuitry.
have a look here for an interface cct http://www.jrmiller.demon.co.uk/proj...td/frqstd0.htm
the NMEA data out can be directed via the RS232 interface section of that circuit
to a computer or even a PIC microcontroller to display the data...
date / time, lat / long, etc etc
here's another page about reading NMEA data ..... http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/nmea.htm
a google search will bring up dozens of pages for you to surf through :)
cheers

Hi davenn,
Thanks for the Info.
In my case GPS module is connected to the microcontroller through the UART interface. So should i use the socket programming for the listening to the GPS NMEA commands?
pps signal is connected to one GPIO of my controller, so reading it can determine whether the GPS module is fine or not
Thanks
