You sometimes used a thermometer to measure the temperature. The thermometer takes small temperature to give you the measurement. Now the thermal energy dissipated in the thermometer should be very small part of the thermal energy of the whole system. In microwave it is very difficult to divide the input power to make a measurement or to use it for some other purpose because of the reflection of power. Normally power dividers or coupler are used for that purpose to avoid the reflection of power.
