how to select a high speed PFD(phase frequency detector)?
I want to select a high speed phase frequency detector, which can be operated up to 2.5GHz.And I want to use this PFD in PLL(it's output is not a quadrature signal). In other words, the PLL's input reference CLK is 2.5GHz.
I don't know whether the conventional tri-state phase frequency detector can meet this requirement?Would you recommend any phase frequency detectors which can work under 2.5GHz?
Thank you very much.
Analog mixer with DC coupled IF is an obvious choice.
Could possibly find and exclusive OR gate that works that fast.
Hitite has one that works to 1.3. Maybe you can push it to 2.5?
you r using the same reference frequency as that of final output, may be a VCO.
why don't u use prescaler divider so that u can have low PFD frequency along with low frequency conventional crystal
if u decied to use prescaler u can have ADF series of analog devices like ADF4106

Would you tell me where I can find Hitite's PFD which can work to 1.3GHz?
Thank you very much.

Remco thinks the prescaler should be as small as possible. Please read Remco's paper on JSSC,Nov.2004 for more details if you are interested in this.

please download Remco's paper on VOL 39,No.11,Nov 2004,JSSC via IEEE's website if you have the permission.
Please clarify further, I looked on IEEExplore but no 'Remco' to be found in the author list. It this his first name?
I think he meant teh followng paper:
Remco C. H. van de Beek at al, "A 2.5?10-GHz Clock Multiplier Unit With 0.22-ps RMS Jitter in Standard 0.18-um CMOS"
Although normally people cite the authors last name, not the first! :)
