URGENT question about interview attire

Hello everyone,
Sorry for posting this on an unrelated forum but I have a couple of URGENT questions:
1. I am having two interviews next week for an intermediate RF/anlog R&D position. I was going to buy a suit for the interview but a friend advised me that people do not wear suits for interviews anymore (except for managerial positions). Is this true? The interview is in Switzerland and I hold a Ph.D., should I invest in a new suit or not?
2. I have not worked outside the US, and I have no idea about the salaries. Can anyone tell me what range to ask for in Switzerland? It is a standard interview question.
I appreciate your advice. Thanks

Here you will find some advice on the clothing issue: http://www.executiveplanet.com/busin...269904672.html
You could estimate the cost of living in Switzerland from this page and then make
an estimate of how much you would need to survive. ;)

The same page has lots of other useful stuff.
And no, I don't live in Switzerland...
Good luck!
Thank you. I undestand that most internet sites advise to wear a suit for interviews, but my friend tells me other wise. What is the common practice these days?
Also, this site is for executive attire. I'm not an "exec" :)
