How to measure and match the chip antenna?
Is there any proceduce to measure a 2.4GHz chip antenna and do the matching? The impedance show on the network analyzer is the same whether I put any component between the antenna and the cable. Thanks a lot
hi,
you might have been working with the log format of the Network analyzer and there might be a shortcircuit somewhere, otherwise the magnitude of the impedance would be different when inserting lumped components in between. Try to work with Smith Chart mode, then you will know whether to insert series or shunt cpacitances or inductances.

By the way, to measure the impedance of the antenna you have to put the reference (electrical delay or port extension) at the end of the cable; to do that you can shortcircuit the cable at the end and move a marker towards load to the shortcircuit point on the smith chart (-1+0j). In this way you are not measuring the impedance of the antenna in series with the cable but just the antenna input impedance.
hope this helps
