Hi there,
I have a strange question to ask, it is not really a PIC related design, but it is related to a PIC project I am working on!
What it is I am trying to capture the information from a small security camera watching my property, the image currently is being stored onto a VHS Cassette, I have been looking for a way to convert this image into a digital formatt that can stored onto some other form of media, like a Harddrive etc
I understand I can buy for around ?£200 a system that can allow me to play back my VHS Tapes to copy them but the issue I am having here is if the tape is used more than once there is deteriation in the quality of the image, so faces etc are poorly defined and you could end up spending hours editing and refining the image!
So what I am trying to achieve is a method that can instantly store the received images in digital formatt so that if the police are called a quick copy can be retrieved and supplied to them, I know this is doing there job for them but hey that is life!
The system I am trying to work on will hopefully have a 1 hour battery backup facility, nothing as complicated as a ups system as they are too bulky for my needs, and I would only require a DC supply!
D_Man has suggested a PC Video Card, but means a computer is required to be constantly running to record the information!

I am looking for a solution that in effect can either be removed like a memory card and downloaded or replaced or a Harddrive that can be easily downloaded to a removeable media like a USB Device!
Is any of this at all possible?
It is a strange request, I hope no one proposes a muppetry certificate for me!
The thought I keep coming back to is that there is such a wide range of media available to store information on, couldn't one of these be used to store the information when triggered to do so say from a PIR that has detected movement so the system starts recording, I know these types of machines do exist at a price but I could not help but wounder if a soltion could easily be constructed for the hobbyist! as there are loads of harddrives being scrapped as people upgrade there machines could one of these not form some sort of solution?
Any feedback would be appreciated!
I might even be barking up the wrong tree!
Regards
