Is it possible to mix and match different antenna types in XBees?

Is it possible to mix and match different antenna types in XBees? i.e., pair a chip antenna Xbee with a wire antenna Xbee? Also, if one of them says "Digi International" and the other one says "Maxstream" can they be paired? They are all series 1. Thanks
