data transmission

hi, can someone help me about data transmission from a car to a computer. i have a GPS receiver and i want to send position data (latitude and longitude).

how frequent is it required for the data to be sent? Maybe it is possible to send the GPS data (already available on some bus? ) via e.g. some GSM modem / SMS ...
