how to make an attenuator

Hello,
Can somebody help how to make an attenuator to be used on microwave 7GHz.

thanks...Kowloon

You build them using PI or T configuration with chip resistors. Accuracy will be less at 7 GHz due to parasitics, but it works fine. I've built PI type attenuators using 0505 chip resistors at 10 GHz. If I remember right, a 3 dB attenuator gave around 3.5-4 dB attenuation @ 10 GHz and return loss about 14-15 dB. See

Or you can buy manufactured chip attenuators:

S2.35 each.

Actually resistive Pi or Tee network can be used up to 10 GHz with normal resistor with degradation of convergence in calculation and measurement at higher frequency. I have uploaded a free software for you. You can specify the input/output port impedance and power, it will compute the required resistor value for Pi or Tee network. Cheers~

What's your result?
