to be an FAE or R&D

do you think to be an research and developer is the older the better especially in hardware design. whether it is the same as to be an field application engineer or technic surpporter.

what is the main difference between R&D and FAE,what kind of technics does them need to command.

if the payment is the same,which job will you choose.

FAE: technical work + customer serving+marketing
R&D: purely technical work

I know some people change job nature to FAE after they are being R&D engineer for several yrs. R&D work is quite dull and boring.
In short, see whether you want to face ppl or face "things"

which is in more need and can earn more money? :o

Even that R&D do a lot more work and most of times is new work (research, applications etc) FAE gets more money in general.

This does not mean R&D gets nothing. Well, imagine how grants can be administered. How knows what is what. Nobody.

In more need they are both.

if you want to be regarded as bright and clever, do R&D. If you want to be regarded as skillful and practical, do FAE. If you like money stick with sales!

R&D engieer's starting salary point is higher, FAE is lower. After you have several yrs working experience, there are no big difference. In HK, FAE need to work with marketing staff closely. so they have more opportunities to meet different ppl. Most ppl will confuse their job nature with sales or marketing executives.

and if you want to make a fortune work head to stock market?
