Microstrip vs coplanar PCB ?

Hi!

For amateur use and home made MW PCB what is better ?
Can I use coplanar lines without lots of vias to other side
(thruhole to gnd) ?
Thruhole metallisation is still big probem for home PCBs !

You should avoid to use coplanar lines with "floating" ground (i.e. not connected to bottom gnd by lot of vias), so its better to prefer microstrip.

For my opinion, for amateur radio world, ustrip is more useful than coplanar.
In most pratical cases, ustrip is less sensitive to mechanical tollerances.
Also from the machining difficult point of view, every step, stub etc, require less working on ustrip.
