Antennas: Characteristic Function -> Radiation Pattern ?

can anyone tell me about the relationship between the characteristic function and the radiation pattern of an antenna? if i have the function, how can i calculate the radiation pattern?

There is a relation between the field of an aperture and its correspondent far field pattern, that is the fourier transform, as u can see on balanis book and bracewell ?(fourier transform and its applications).
