How are commercial 2.4ghz gain amplifiers made?

... or antennafiers as RFLINX likes to call them.

I'm a freshman at university of electrical engineering. I'll be taking telecommunications next year. So i am very new at 2.4ghz RF.

How to build a gain amplifier for WLAN 802.11g (or b) adapters? I know it's possible to make an amplifier that doesn't need to "encroach" in to the adapter itself. How are commercial ones made then?

Correct me if i'm wrong, that kind of amplifier needs a Tx/Rx sensor for the switch, right?

Are there any other ways to amplify singal strength of a wlan adapter (except with a gain antenna)?

Please share your knowledge.

Thanks

Here's a fine example of a commercial Bi-Directional amplifier:

Notice the Tx/Rx sensing technique on the block diagram (the PDF data sheet)?

i Think that wasnt the answer of the question..

i am also searching for this meterial because i want to design my own Boosters..

hey
check this 2.4 GHZ bi-directional design ..try to understand it so u can design ur own amplifier
