radio amplifier 2meter band

in need of references of 2meter band power amplifiers.
1) Searching for 2meter band power amplifier with output power in between 50-500watts cicuit diagrams.
2)2meter band power amplifiers falls under which amplifier class category? A,B,AB,OR C.

2. most of them are class C.

Class C for FM.
Class B for SSB.

You can use amplifier RA60H1317M from MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC. The amplifier has Pout=60Watt at frequency band:135-175MHz.
If you need more Pout you can use few such amplifiers.

what you need is a design that uses a pair of 4cx250b valves
many such amplifiers exist as black boxes from japan

i fully endorse buying a ready made / second hand unit
{will cost around 300-600 euros}

to make such a high power amp is a big task and the stipline tuning involved is quite grusumb calculations however not that hard if you know what your doing

anyway 2meters is 2meters why such a large amp

to use just speradic e

the tropospherics isnt good at this high freq
the furthest com i had {17 element yagi 2meters ssb 144.350mhz 400watt input } was brasil for 20 seconds and it was 1 way {i couldnt talk to him until near the end of the lift}

so whats the point

your better buying an HF setup

class AB push pull for both

for more than 150 watt in solid state is all very well to buy the amp
great you say 400watts

now you need a big psu another 600euros lol:::!


so basicaly it all comes down to the duty cycle required in FM mode

if you want to use the amp on fm for more than 10 mins
youll need to
with valves reduce the power for 100% duty to 200 watts rms and not 400

for solid state youll need mega fans and a huge heatsink etc etc
and also youll need a psu that yields twice the current youll need at the power you choose to use 100% duty


i usualy set a timer in the amp so it self cuts out after 10mins for valves and 30 mins for solid state

this way youll not pop any valves melt your transformers or fry your psu


for ssb this isnt so important as you can imagine

but for FM it is very important

forinstance most broudcast transmiters are mega over rated
and are water cooled both solid state and valve type's
youll also need some rather large snail fans that are realy noisy


most solid state designs are protected by the maker
both the circuits and the transistor numbers
so they are hard to find

homebrew now ... hum i would ask a manufacturer of specific models

most of them will release you diagrams if you ask them
and pay for shipping

so email to them first

use google and look on the cb circuit sites

most cb sites have a ham section with many circuits
