about microstrip filters
iam anew memeber in that site, i think it is agreat site which can help many people
plz if any one can help me, iam now starting with my group in aproject to do amicrostrip filter ,i realy don't know much about this project so if any one know if this is abig project or small ,we are six & if we work hard in what time can we finish it i know that this is astrange quistion but we realy want to know the average time this project will be taken
salam
There are several factors.
1. Is the requirement document or description clear and complete. You do not want to finish the project only to learn that some parameter was not met because the specifications had an error or omission.
2. Are you doing the physical dimension calculations by hand or with a CAD program? This could take days by hand and minutes with the program.
3. Are you making the film for the PC card by hand, by a general purpose drafting program, or is it automatically done by the CAD program.
3. How long does it take to make the PC board? (Commonly called turn around time.)
4. How extensively do you have to test it?
5. If some specifications are not met, do you have to start again?
Hello eng_moslema;
How much do you know about microstrip filter? Are you a microwave engineer? If you are a microwave engineer, you know fundamental things that you need. But you should read a book about microstrip filters. Then you should learn a microwave analysis and design software, like MWOffice, ADS, .... Then you can do your project.
the time u will take depends on many things as flatulent said
but the more important than time the things will u learn ,
i think it will be great , and the group from 6 ppl can do many types of filter with different shapes
so if u divide ur self into three groups , and each group study some filters types it will be great
about the cad tools , u need an Electromagnetic simulator , and a filter synthize program , try @DS , and MWO , or eagle ware
try to find lancester book "Microstrip Filters for RF MW Applications"
wish thid help
khouly
i read abook included informations about microstrip it is microwave engineering (david mpozar)
we wants to do acomplete filter during 2 mothes and it's enugh now to do lowpass filter but we insist to see the complete project we need to see our product
is that available in 2 mothes or not
thank u all
salam
if ur team well organized , and u have the books and the tools
i see two months more than enough to get ur filter working
i wish u can acomplish ur targets
khouly
here the link for the book that khouly name and another book will be very useful to you

than u
but i still need large points
no problem iam still pation
salam
also try to use one of the CAD tools to design the filter and simulate it
it will help u , and will accelerate ur design cycle
i have designed and implemented a microstrip LPF in two days with the help of the CAD tools

ok try this it will help very will

Try to do some simulation before starting the production of the pcb.
Don't forget that, depending on the application, low pass filter implementation in microstrip technique is not always good. There will be a spectrum repetition at about the double of the cutoff frequency.
So when you design a low pass filter using microstrip you are in fact designing a band-reject filter instead. This makes very most of the times a low pass microstrip implementation completely useless!
Sometimes it is more advantageous to design a band pass (having the high cutoff frequency where you would want the cutoff frequency of you low pass) than a low pass. In this case you can have the spectral repetition at even up to 6 times the cutoff frequency depending on the coupled structure that you use.
Advice: Check different structures before making your pcb.

first start of mattahi book for approximatly design and use of hong book.

we started doing our microstrip filter after finishing reading about it but my quistion now that the available CAD tools with us are (zeland )and ADS so which of them is better and easy.
my second requist is that if any one know any (good & usful),(big or small) applications about microstrip filters can tell me please because we need that as fast as soon.
realy u helped us, thank u very much
salam
@DS is better , specially it has a synthizes function , so u can design ur filter in about 5 min
and also can use it as schematic to fast simulate and optimize the filter and a good EM simulator which is momentum
zeland is EM simulator and it is good also
about the application of the filter , in LNB , satelite and radars
wish this help

I have experienced on designing LPF,HPF,Diplexer and duplexer using microstrip tech......see whether I can help you.....drop me a message if you want.....
Hi Engg_moslema
My MSc was in microstrip tunable filters ... so I may Help in case you face any problems just give me personal mail
