You can estimate ber if you have simulated with noise or measured eye.

I have compared such estimation with measured ber. And seen that results are in agreement.

BER~=0.5*erfc(A/nois*sqrt(2))
where noise is rms noise voltage at desision circuit input
A is eye opening at desision point

I seen that it is relatively good estimation (but not exact calculation!)

from the amount of opening you can conclude the presence of ISI..if it is fully opened that indicates no ISI on the other end if it is fully closed there exists no ISI in the system.....moreover you can use the formula to find amount of
ISI= 20 LOG(h/H)....h ---> heights of horizontal opening(to be find from eye diagram) ,H----> height of horizontal opening for error free system take that as 100
