mixer multiplier
What is the difference between a mixer and a multiplier. And why are not mixer/ quadrature mixer ICs not available at the HF range?
Also can anyone help me on how to implement a Quadrature mixer using Transistors.
Perhaps you try to find upconverters (modulators) of downconverters (demodulators). They surely are available for HF. Take a look at Hittite:
www.hittite.com
Look for modulators to upconvert to HF, and IQ mixers to downconvert
i think the difference is that mixers doesn't simply multiply , u may think of it as if what the mixer do the following>>>>
IF=RF*sgn(LO) not just IF=RF*LO

maybe ii am not clear enough what i meant is that the amplitude of the LO shouldn't appear in the IF equation
I think you mean difference between frequency multiplier and mixer; they have alot of similarity but the main difference between them is that in frequency multiplier only one signal is implied while in mixer we need two signlas as source. In both of them to approach our need we drive circuits to nonlinear area to produce the harmonic of input signal(as a multiplied frequency of input signal) in multiplier and to produce the intermodulation of input signlas in mixer. One of the best known reffrence for these topics is "Nonlinear Microwave Circuits" by Stephan Mass. This book includes both of these topics (Frequency Multiplier and Mixer) in different chapters, also you can find how to implement balance and quadrature balance mixer.
