what cross-section means ?

please can anybody tell me what cross section means and what is it good for in a desing of antennas ?

another question : what is cross-section in french ? i mean the translation of the word.

Cross section mainly is related to space in cm2, for example, the radar cross section, antenna cross section. Etc. this parameter mainly relate the physical area to the effective (electrical area).
