hi guys i'm dealing with a bandpass filter design for my final year project. I have 2 substrates for hardware fabrication : FR4 (er=4.5) and Rogers3010 (RO3010) (er=10.2). The filter is designed for center frequency 2.5GHz and my main goal is overall filter size reduction. Which of the 2 substrates mentioned would be more suitable so that i could meet the goals without much loss ? What are the benefits and disadvantages between each substrates?Pls help. Thanks alot
If you choose higher Er, your circuit dimensions will be smaller but more expensive..
At that frequency tangDelta ( substrate losses ) is very important and as I see, Rogers will be good choice for that application.
tacnic also have a very good substarte called RF35 , it is great
with Er about 3.5 with about 0.0018 tangent loss at 2 GHz
khouly
Recently I designed a microstrip BPF at this freqency using Taconic RF60A (Er=6.15. loss tangent=0.0018), which is quite good for both size and performance.
