need help on phase shifters
i need some help regarding ,,,, how electrical beam tilt is achieved by vaying the phase of the antennas. plz givee me some reference.
this phenomina is simple you can easily understand it from Anteena theory and design by C.A balanis, and keep one thing in mind it is possible with anteena arrays only at least two anteenas, because beam shape depends on anteena fundamental radiation pattern in to array factor, if you are using dipole its fundamental radiation pattern is like 8 (depends on dipole placement) and now you can change it in to many shapes by using array of dipoles, by multiplying it with array factor, also you can check the effect in HFSS using array setup,
There are numerous references to how phase alterations can cause an antenna beam to squint. It is a subject that most antenna books cover. Look at onethat you can get your hands on easily first.
The basic idea is that in an array antenna the contributions from all the elements add and form a peak in some preferred direction (usually broadside or endfire). Altering the phase of the elements relative to each other before they are combined causes the peak to form in a new direction and thus the beam is scanned. A beam may also be scanned by introducing time delays between the elements before they are combined.
