How to do a coaxial excitation with HFSS?
I?m back here with another question... I need to make simulations (HFSS) with inputs and outputs for combiners and I? having problems with the excitations.
How to define excitations on HFSS for a coaxial cable? A waveport needs a integration line, a incident wave is a planar wave, how can I define this input.
I have a transmission from a EIA 7/8? to a N coaxial cable. The types don′t matter, you can consider anyone.
Thanks all!

well i'm not sure but i did somthin similar with microstrip simulation on HFSS
add a plane at the input of the line touching the inner and outer conductors
the assign this plane as a wave port the in tegration line is the center line of the pale
( the plane is a XY plane if the propagation direction is Z )
Hi Yahia!
So the excitation is something like this? (picture attached)
It makes sense, the outer conductor being the ground, and the inner having the conduction current.
Do you know if its too much different about assigning a finite conducticity or a PEC for the outer conductor?
Thanks again!
Thadeu
yes it's like that
you may want to try this ... if the distance between the inner radius and the outer radius (of your coaxial) is less than 1/10 of the wavelength
Draw the inner conductor on top of the ground plane ... but "do" leave a small gap between the ground and the inner conductor ... then draw a rectangle that connects the inner conductor and the ground and then defne a lumped gap source on the rectangle ...
hope this can help
