(1) Synthesis. In this step you can firstly obtain the transmission poles and transmission zeros from the specifications of filter by mathematical theory. Then you get the ideal circuit parameters according to the topology of filter.
(2) Realization. In this step you can get the initial size of microwave structure from the ideal circuit parameters by simulator (HFSS and CST for 3D structure, and Designer and Momentum, IE3D for 2.5D structure).
(3)Tuning. In this step you need to finely tuning the whole filter, escepically the size of every resonator, with the help of simulator.
(4)Fabrication and Measurement.

i use ansoft Designer+hfss,
it can use to design Combline filter and intergrated(?) filter
I have been using Mician Wizard and it seems to be quite good

we use hfss cst and mician for cavity filter design
mician is very good for design
true, I once used Mician for my WG cavity filters at 24 GHz. It 's very good.

Hi, i have just found some points that you may chek on your model in order to get the results you need, I hope this helps you:
1-Integration lines for each port are not defined
2-Make sure when runing simulation the yo have steps enough in order to reach convergence. (As setted 10 steps is not enough)
3-Not certainly sure of this but just in case: you should take care of getting united all the the parts that must be united.
