Is a Litz wire at 150 MHz possible ?

Somebody told me that litz wire should only be used below 3MHz.
It seems to me that the skin depth in copper at 150 MHz (5.4 micron) would require litz wire made od very thin strands.
What should I believe and why?

I see wire diameters down to 0.03 mm in a litz wire catalog. Obviously they are intended for frequencies above 3 MHz.

I think you are right, but at 3 MHz in copper the skin depth is 38 microns, so it is not quite obvious.

What about bond wires inside of chip sets? Sometimes they are used at several GHz.

Vfone, dunno if you have followed htg's other thread where some of these questions have already been asked/answered ....
htg is planning on several kW of RF power @ 150MHz I had already commented that what was needed was a solid and sizeable diameter rod as the RF probe into the waveguide :)
This probe, if required, could be silver or gold plated to aide with skin effects

Reading the said other post, it seems to me, that the present discussion is more or less useless. One more bad cross posting example. I still keep my opinion, that litz wire usage can be meaningful for 10 or 100 MHz range, but most likely not for waveguide transition or transmission line design in generally.

Why so? What makes a transmission line usage or waveguide transition usage so different?

An exact EM simulation can tell. But I think, there's an important difference, that the dielectric current is flowing into the surface,
so the there won't be an even current distribution.

Coax cables with multi kW power ratings have e.g. 5 mm center conductor (like RG218).
