RF devices design and build HELP!

Hi,

I am doing some kind of university project now. In 1 of the part, i need to use computer to control my robot movement with wireless. In the same time my robot need to send some data back to the computer also through wireless.

My problem is i am not allowed to use any RF module such as zigbee for interfacing between PC and my robot micro controller. I am required to build the transmitter and receiver by myself (i mean the RF devices).

Anyone have any idea of this? may i have a some similar circuit and theory or description. i hope i can go through for more understanding. (*i am not telecommunication major student )
