design RF amplifier using ATF-36163
Hi there!
I need to design an amplifier using ATF-36163 transistor. I also have to use Ansoft Design (I have not really get the hand of using this yet).
The amplifier is to operate at 5Ghz (that's the only requirement in terms of variables). I already have the S parameters in hand. However, I am quite lost on how to start. I have looked at the Gonzalez book as well.
Among the first step that I am required to do is to have one attenuator at the output to stabilize the amplifier. Therefore I have to determine the required gain and matching resistor of th attenuator.
From the Gonzalez book, I understood that using the S-parameters at 5Ghz, I should calculate the stability circle to ensure that it lies outside the smith chart. And I should follow this with calculating the Rollet's stability factor.
Am I on the right track?

What is your LNA specifications?
The LNA is designing for a Vds=1.5v and Ids=10mA. The amplifier is to operate at 5 ghz and should be unconditionally stable. Please help me....

You can 1st simulate this file, then simulate at 5GHz. use ADS/AWR, Opt the parameters.

Thankyou for these application notes. i calculated the stabilty circles from s parameters for 5 ghz. but i couldn't calculate the value of resistor to make the transistor unconditionally stable. I got an input stability circle with center 1.87<118 and radius 1.15 and output circle with center -3.0367<156 and radius 3.42. Could you please tell me how to calculate the load resistor value to make it unconditionally stable. I am stucked at this part.please help me. how to draw the circle if the center have a minus value.
I don't use SmithChart. I just simulated in ADS and AWR, to make both u-parameters greater than 1, then it's un-conditionally stable.
Could you please tell me a step by step procedure to design the lna using ADS? I am using the ADS for the first time so i don't know how to simulate the design on this. please help me.
Pls start ADS by some textbook. Sorry I am busy and can't teach you step by step. But ADS is easy,....
