calculating insertion loss in optical interconnection
can u plz also tell me what are the factors which influence insertion loss? i know that absorption contributes in insertion loss...plz help me with information..i need it very badly

I hope this will apply to you. or help you understand.
In system level, the insertion loss should include the coupling loss from laser to modulator, the insertion loss of modulator itself. In addition you should count 3dB more as the modulator is generally bias at quadrature (-3dB from maximum power) point for interconnection application.
The losses come mainly from the waveguide propagation loss (including absorption, scatting, leakage), coupling loss(between waveguide or fiber), depends on what kind of modulator you are using.
my modulator is electroabsorption modulator(EAM)..and it is fabricated with the laser...and i am using quantum wire EAM..i want to find the insertion loss at the junction between laser and EAM...if u have any equation or any journal or any document relating to this plz provide me...i am badly in need of it :(((

and then how will i calculate scatterin, leakage, coupling loss...i have already calculated the absorption loss
