RAM and Cache Size for HFSS
Is this computer good for HFSS simulations:
Intel core DUO 3GHz
RAM 4 GB
Cache 4Mb
Hard 160 GB
please help
yaa its sufficient for HFSS....................
Hi,
I think this is not enough, you must buy a PC with CPU having a good cache:the ideal is to get a Quad with XP 64-bit OS installed and memory ≥ 4 GB.
Ciao
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have only 32 bit OS, is the below values good for HFSS"
CPU Speed : 3 GHz , Core Duo
RAM : 4 GB DDR II
CACHE- 8 MB
Hard Drive Capacity : 160 GB
how the cache memory will effect the simulation time?
Regards
Your PC is more than sufficient, but you won't be able to simulate "large" structures. Cache will not affect your simulation time considerably, but swaping on disk will.
Hi,
what do you mean by swapping disk?
HFSS will run on a 32 bit box but it is painful (e. g. relatively slow). If you can find a way to get to 64 bit OS things will be much better. For many problems you will want more RAM. A lot more.
Swapping is when the processor uses the hard drive in the place of RAM. This also slows the solutions.
