problem of resonant frequency (dipole in a cavity)

Hey People,

I am really having trouble understanding this problem. I have a rectangular patch antenna whose width is λ/2 for the desired resonance. For the excitation, I placed a dipole (infinitesimal) right at the center of the patch perpendicular to the width.

When I look at the radiated power vs frequency, I see only even modes (λ, 2λ, etc). However when I deplace this dipole from the center to elsewhere, I do see odd modes. I don't understand why this happens? As the physics of the dipole inside a cavity seems to suggest the radiation enhancement of the λ/2 mode when placed in the center of the cavity.

Any idea? Thanks for your reply and suggestions.
