Transformation from rectangular waveguide to Conical Horn?
I am working on the design of conical horn. There is a choice of using either circular waveguide or rectangular waveguide. Which one is preferably better in which losses are less. How to transform from rectangular waveguide to Conical shape horn, any shape or diagram would be helpful. Can circular polarization can be achived by using a rectangular waveguide.
a circular to rectangular transition call for a mechanical work. this is due because pratically speaking there is no one accepted standard dimension for circular waveguide, so it's hard to find on the marlek
It may be done as;
1) "linear taper" , 2 (or more) Lambda long.
2) stepped transition. require simulator HFSS or a generic Mode Matching. The step lenght are 1/4 lambda long.
both circular polarizzations may propagate in a circular or square waveguide only.
One polarizzation only (LHCP or RHCP) may be transformed by a polarizer into a linear one and then thru a transition may be routed into rectangulare waveguide.
In any case there is no way to route both circular polarizzations into the same media (rectangular, coax etc. ) exept for round or quare waveguide.
Here three examples
1. taper rect. wg---> cir wg
2. rect. wg---> rect. wg circular polarizer
3. cir. wg---> cir. wg circular polarizer
Hi ping-pong
I have here three papers about the polarizer
you build it from two waveguide back to back in the broad wall
you feed them thru the transformer and you get the circular pol.
