Rules of reading Mode

Hi,

Can anybody help me in describing the rules (or send me some good link that contains the explanation) of how to read the modes in circular or rectangular resonators or waveguides depending on the field diagram?

I mean TE101, TE01δ, TM01δ, TM111, etc etc etc etc..............
