Oscillators 500 MHZ & up to 1GHZ

Is it possible to build oscillator at 500 MHZ and up to 1 GHZ simply using the known configurations (Collpits, Clapp & hartley) and using simply Aircore inductors (For Coils) , What about the stability ? , OR There're another Techniques used in Higher frequency operations for oscillators ?

Of course possible to build a oscillator that works from clap0.5GHz to 1GHz with Varicap diodes.However practically tuning range can not be more than 2.5 octaves. But 2 octaves can be achived easily..

For this purpose I recommend to use collector grounded collpits oscillator to obtain linear tuning range.
