Apparently it's a ceramic discriminator of some type, but I have searched and searched and cannot find anywhere I can order them. I know there must be other parts I can replace this with but as I don't know much about ceramic discriminators I really don't know what to look for. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give.

Hard to say. Depends on what frequency the system operates at. I would try a 27 MHz ceramic resonator in that slot and see if it works.
Maybe if you could help me understand just what a ceramic discriminator is I would have a better chance at getting this working again? The receiver does operate at 27MHz, but that ceramic discriminator is rated at 455kHz

What sort of moron posts a question on this board but does not bother to tell what frequency the part is operating at, even though he knows that info. Figure it out yourself.
Beats me. What sort of moron can't figure out how to replace "**" with "tt" to follow a link to all the specs for the part including frequency?
I guess that's also the same sort of moron who fails to see why you need to know anything about the frequency of something to help her understand what exactly a ceramic discriminator does and whether she can replace it with a less sophisticated mini-circuit of common parts.
I'm not looking to be spoonfed with "order part #xxxx from x website." I'm looking for "you can use a crystal or ceramic oscillator or RC circuit or a pink elephant in place of a ceramic discriminator because all it really does is blah blah blah."
I appreciate your input, but I can't say I take kindly to being a moron for any reason. Not knowing as much as you do about this stuff doesn't make me a moron. And forgetting to include details that might help only makes me blonde - still not a moron. Just like not checking the link I posted doesn't make you a moron - it only makes you almost as lazy as me.
I'd love it if I could figure this out myself. Show me a wikipedia article or something. I sure as hell can't find anything on the subject. If you know anything more than I do about ceramic discriminators I'd surely be obliged if you'd share it with me.
This Ceramic Discriminator is for 455kHz. Any kind, type or production will fit. Look for package first.
Discriminator can be replaced with parallel tank circuit.
