I was wondering, how much bandwidth is allocated to an FM radio channel, and how many channels can there be in the 88 - 108 MHZ band. Also what are the allocated bands for broadcast television and the bandwidth required for a TV channel.
FM TX bandwidth is 180kHz for mono and 280kHz for stereo transmission. TX channels are 100kHz apart in Europe and 200kHz in USA, I think. Actual channels occupation depends on FM broadcast network planning regarding coverage of country and chanel interfierence and is internationally coordinated.
TV TX bandwidth depends on TV standard and for B/G is 6.85MHz approx. Broadcast channel spacing is 7MHz for Band I and Band III and 8MHz for Band IV and Band V. It is valid for B/G standard. Other standards use different spacing (channelisation). Actual channel occupation is allso planed the same way as FM.
