advantages of different filter designs

are there any links in which I could check out the basic advantages and disadvantages of different types of filter design such as parallel coupled, interdigital and hairpin filters?

i would say advantages and disadvantages all depend on the application frequency range etc etc, it all depends on the criterion that you care about.

In my experience, most filter topologies are chosen because they will be easiest to build. For instance, a narrow band filter can be fabricated with edge coupled lines becuase in narrow band the gaps are large. But for broad band a shunt resonator approach is easier to fabricate, either can be tailored to match the classic filter types.
