WiFi connection problem

Hi!

I have a problem with a WiFi connection. The distance is 400m. I use a Yagi and a parabolic antennas.(Gain approx. 20 dB) But the connection is wrong.

What do you recommend for me?

I want ot use an LNA for growing the receving's stremgth.
What type of amplifier do you know( I need practical experiments)?
Or : Do you recommend me a PA to growing the transmitted power?

Since you seem to have control over both ends of the link and it is point to point, use gain antennas at each end. Also set the bit rate to the lowest available setting.

There may be other errors involved such as not putting the SSID properly (not spelled correctly) or not using the same frequency at each end.

There shouldn't be any problem over that distance. My connection seems
to work fine, otherwise I wouldn't be here, and the distance between me
and the access point is about 300 meters. The output power of the access
point is +20 dBm into an omnidirectional antenna and on the receiving end
I use a 24 dBi grid antenna indoors, connnected via a 10 m long coaxial cable
with about 3 dB loss. Both antenna's should be directed at each other without
any obstacles in between, it doesn't work well on a reflection. Don't forget
that standard RG-58 cable will have a loss of 1 dB per meter at 2,4 GHz. You
should preferably use low loss cable with air di?lectricum and two short "pigtails".
If the cable is a problem you can allways use an accesspoint which can work
in client mode (ask the salesperson), hook it up close to the antenna, and
connect it to the network port of your computer with a standard network cable.
I included a Netstumbler file which was measured yesterday, it will give you a
rough idea of the received signal strength over a ten minute interval.
Download Netstumbler and use it also to align your antenna's and to look for
other WiFi user's which could use the same channel as you do.
If you have further questions I'll try to answer them, if I can't I'll pass them on
to somebody who can.

Can you tell me how to use that netstumbler and what type of interface to the PC and which type of connectors to use with the Coaxial Cable.

Also tell me how to measure the gain of an antenna in the field NOT in the LAB.

you will find the best hipowered modems from belkin {58sl}

can travel upto 1km easy

if you have problems with connection it is usualy your local TV traffic

although this can be benificial also

i note that when im on bbc1 i get a smooth connection at distance

but on channel4 i get gibberish
just shows how mixing products work

i found you need to look for a hot spot
just plonking it down is daft

you need some sort of signal strengh meter {there are many avalible}

and you can tune in no problem
400m and still trash signals sounds suspect as if the modem or hub was deaf....

i get 4km accross a river
with little problems and sit and play duke 3d
