Core supply voltage of 0.18um <--- MEANS?

Dear all,

I have a question about the meaning of core supply voltage of 0.18um stated in the data sheet. I always see that the data sheet will list out the core supply voltage of 0.18um is 1.8V/3.3V. What is this voltage mean? For my understanding, this is a highest voltage at Vgs. This will not burn out the gate oxide. Am I right?

Thanks

wccheng

Correct. Your circuits in the IC have to work below that voltage. Also, big concern is the current that your circuit can hold.

But as for 0.18/3.3 you are correct. Technology can support up to 3.3 Volts.

Dear dkace,

Correct means that Vgs could not higher than 1.8V? Or, you mean the Vds? Could you explain it in detailed?

thanks

wccheng

Well 1.8 is the limit of normal CMOS in 0.18μm technology, whereas 3.3 is the max voltage applied to the thick oxide CMOS ( your technology should have high voltage device s2.5V and 3.3V or something like this). If you are checking the Design manual of your technology this is stated in the Technology Features right in the first chapter.

D.
