rms phase error
If someone could help me on this. How to convert the RMS phase error calculated from synthesizer phase noise curve into dBc value?
there is no unique mapping from RMS phase error to a curve... several different curves can map to the same RMS phase error number.
you can see the calculations in many places, my website tools.RFdude.com has a page with PLL worksheets in mathcad (there are PDF versions if you don't have mathcad and just want to see the math).

hi, thanks a lot from that rfdude link!
RMS Phase Error to PN (Phase Noise in dBc)
I don't see how that coudl work, what's the reference?
It doesn't. That looks like a phase noise TO rms phase error equation. Since I do not see any integration going on, I am suspicious.
yeah, it might be an extreme oversimiplification for some particular set of conditions...
(I know it is wrong in general, I was just curious about the origins -- these are the sorts of equations that are most dangerous!).
Yep. You can name this an oversimplification.
I got it from one of my old school manuscripts and I am using time to time on my spreadsheets.
Dangerous? Dangerous could be also walking on the street :D
or surfing through this forum!
Hmmm! Scared? Just stay away of it and you?ll be safe?
