Which software to use for simulating a 6 meter antenna?
(its an patch antenna array.)
which software should be used?
Hey,
You could simulate one antenna and extend/extrapolate the results to constitute an array in HFSS. I've done this and it is really useful. I did it for a linear array.. You might have to write a macro or something for a non linear one but its doable in HFSS, I know that for sure.
Ananth.
I agree with anath. It can also be done with CST microwave studio. It is very time consuming to simulate such a big array.
also you can use from software ie3d for simulation array patch microstrip antenna.
you can refer to link: www.zeland.com
thanks everyone for your replies.
So we can write macro in CST also?
I want to purchase the software.
so do I go for CST?

Can we do this in ADS?
If you have ADS with Momentum, you should be able to analze the patch element in Momentum. I don't know if you could do the entire array, though. Depends on your freqency (which affects the overall memory requirements). If it is too big for EM analysis, you could analyze one element, or a subarray with feeds to capture at least some of the cross-coupling and use the schematic in ADS to connect everything together.
The problem with this approach, however, is that you lose element-to-element coupling which can affect your results if you are electronically steering your antenna pattern. For broadside steering, it might be OK. If the elements are pretty close together (like 1/4 wavelength or 1/2 wavelength from phase center to phase center), then you probably should capture the cross-coupling.
What is your frequency range?
--Max
I agree with max.
The external mutual coupling between elements may have a great effect on the performance of the entire array. Periodic boundaries (slave and master in HFSS ) may be used for the analysis of single element with consideration on the external mutual coupling in the arrary. However, the internal mutual coupling (for example, waveguide slot arrays) can not be done like this. I do not know the best way to include the internal mutual coupling. Anyone knows?
Thanks for replying friends.
My frequencies of interest are 10.7GHz,20GHz& 37GHz.
I have to design the same for these frequencies.
Looking for the solutions for the possible problem that you have stated.
Has Any one of you come across term ROTMAN LENS?
I am searching for the information.
May be it is used for beam steering.
Your suggestions will help.
thank you
Abhishekabs
use the feiko to simulate it
What is feiko ?
For big antenna dimension, it's preferable to use Wipl-D, the simulations is based on MoM & for big structures
Thanks a lot Bassem.
I was really looking for such software.
Array designer tools are provided in this software.
Good software.
Can you tell me what is the cost of this softwares.
