Which type of antenna should we use for cognitive radio system ?

Hi All,

Any one knows which type of antenna should we use for cognitive Radio System ?

Thank you for your help!

It's much more dependent on the application you're looking to support (is it mobile or fixed, what bands does it have to support, what's the link budget, what makes sense mechanically) than the fact that the radio is a cognitive radio. Sure you need good sensing data which is slightly different from most radio designs, but you don't have to generate that autonomously (e.g., see 802.22).

In my experience, what works best for the traditional radio aspects of your design will work fine for your cognitive radio..

Thank you for your replay
you know that cognitive radio operates in all frequency rang as it has the ability to sense and learn then adapt as you know it is a new technology and need antennas to support a wide range of frequency. but the problem is im not sure what type of antenna should i use and is patch antenna will be ok with this system ?

you know that cognitive radio operates in all frequency rang(e)

No. It doesn't. See 802.22 or 802.11h, both of which are confined to specific bands. Also learning/adapting are basically irrelevant to the antenna design as they should be done in software.

A patch antenna can work if it's suitable for the *application*.
