USB Sperctrum Analyzer
Does anybody can show me USB connect able PC spectrum analyzers? For max. 3 GHz frequency. I need a full functional (but basic) spectrum analyzer which hasn't got LCD display (monitoring at the PC).
The main issue is to be cost effective! (It will be a second analyzer for basic measurements...)
Regards,
Z
I don't know if there exist such an instrument.
What it seems to me is that the cost saving will not be in the LCD/CRT.
Maybe you can see for an used instrument.

OK, Mazz! I understand your opinion. But further more I don't want to measure let's say phase noise with that cheep stuff.
Just to take a look at the spectrum, and say "There is a CW, or modulated signal, with approximately +/- 1 dBm strength"
In many cases it is still enough! (And don't forget the mobility! Who wants to carry a heavy instrument at the airport?) Stick it into the laptop and GO!
Cheers,
Z
There are WLAN cards with software that can operate as a spectrum analyzer over a limited frequency range. They are ~ S100.
Other than that, you are going to have to buy a used SA on ebay (S2000 and up) or get one of the new portable ones (around S4500), like BK, etc.
OK Biff! But wlan cards are operates only in the 2.45 G range, am I right?
2000 S is expensive, for a second (third?) SA.
Here is an USB Spectrum Analyzer, but only up to 1GHz:

Wow! Thats what I talking about! :) Thanks! Up to 3 GHz would be nice!
Years ago I had a 1GHz Spectrum Analyzer and I built for it a simple down-converter (a Local Oscillator and a microwave DBM mixer followed by a LPF), to use for different frequency range.
For example if the LO is on 1GHz, the frequency range is between 1GHz and 2GHz, and if the LO is on 2GHz the frequency range is between 2GHz and 3GHz.
Using this converter the SA dynamic range and the calibration will be affected, but you can get a compromise somehow.
