via holes in ie3d
I very need advice how to simulate DGS in IE3D, I mean how much and which layers I have to define and how to etch shapes in ground plane?
I would be very appreciate for project files.
Thank you.
Hi,alexandr22061986:
There are two approaches:
1. Using m-current model for slots on infinite gnd.
2. Uisng e-current model for the finite gnd.
From my experience, the e-current approach is better. Please read the IE3D manual. There are examples there. I noticed some users try to define a negative port on a wide edge of the GND. It may yield incorrect results when the negative port is too wide for some special cases. Please limit its size. Regards.
How much layers I have to define? I think I should use Z0 GND layer, Z1 dielectric, Z2 dielectric, Z3 air. On Z1 dispose a ground plane with DGS and on Z2 microstrip. This is correct?
I think it will depend upon how the GDS ground look like. Maybe you can send me some sketch at jian@zeland.com and I will give you more suggestions.
Hi ,
pl see the followin attachment

IN IE3D:::
in the finite ground modeling, if you draw a structure in ground plane, it creats a defect as the structure. Try on this way..
HI, kannadassan:
I think you are talking about infinite gnd. If you draw some horizontal polygons on an infinite gnd, the polygons become holes. Holes on inifnite gnd are good model while the holes on finite gnd may yield more accurate results. Regards.
Hi,
in DGS make finite ground and convert the infinte substrate to finite substrate ,edit the layer window select the groung plane ,use the draw option make the slot and select that poloygon use ADvit edit --use bulit hole via selected pologon in that select the layer.
yes jian, that's right. but I don't using the IE3D. I am using the Microwave office, which give a better results, I feel.
regards
