How to increase the gain of an antenna?
i have a normal store bought fm receiver. i want to replace the antenna with a high gain antenna. i am a newbie.could anybody give a homebrew idea or tell me how to increase the gain of an antenna.
use some form of reflector to concentrate the energy.
Antenna gain increases with effective aperture (size). The relation is roughly linear with surface. Double the surface and the gain increases 3 dB.
Unfortunately the world wants more gain and smaller antennas.
If you really want to mess with more gain look into some of the HAM literature. You could start with the ARRL Antenna Handbook.
Just buy a good external FM antenna In a shop and connect this to your receiver
you can use a conductor plate (any metal preferrebly copper or iron and connect it to ground( ur antenna ground and this ground shd be shorted) and mount your antenna on this surface but take care that your live wire dosn't get shorted with the plate. This will increase the gain of the antenna
