patch antenna tutorial

hello ppl....i am a B.E 3rd yr student stuck with a fool of a prof n hav to simulate a microstrip patch antenna on Ie3d .
i would like to know if Ie3d is the correct software for doin it.
i would also really appreciate if somebody could tell me where i start n how i start. All i know are the basics of patch antennas.

IE3D is fine for designing patch antennas.

I have the book "Microstrip Antenna-Theory and Design" by J.R.James and others. However, I find it a little difficult to follow. If there is a book which speaks in a simpler language for beginners................
Also do I need to know the antenna analysis methods in high detail?

Go through chapter 5 of IE3D manual (Designing of Edge fed Microstrip patch Antenna in IE3D).

Best for students like us who are doing project and do not need to have a deep understanding of subject.This will give you overall idea and the one which suits you,go for a deep study of that.

Also try Sonnet software! its very easy to simulate microstrip patch antennas and optimize.
You can download an evaluation copy.
