Lightning
Cant we use AM receiver to detect lightning
Actual lighting disturb the amplitude of carrier (AM) and the amplitude carries the information, so the information is disturbed or noisey at that moment.
AM is also disturb by electric arcing, motor machine starts or heavy load switching even tube light in houses that uses choke and starter can produce noise (disturbance) in the AM signal, so in that case it may not be a good idea for detecting lightning. If away from such local noise producer, it may be.
ENJOY!
are there any other methods to detect lightning
Following circuit may help you.
ENJOY!
If lightning strikes, i have to control the rest of the circuit with the help of PIC.
Lightning is just one of the input to the circuit.
Thanks.
As a matter of interest, many decades ago it was proposed to have a string of wide band receivers on the seacoast. Since they were broadband, they had a good time response to the lightening. By comparing the times of arrival the location of storms out at sea could be obtained and ships warned of dangerous areas.
