At the moment I'm working as a student on the development of an UHF RFID system for my graduation project. As a reference design I use the "R1000 development kit" from Intel which includes the R1000 transceiver chip. To get more knowledge I studied the schematics, but this raised up a few questions.
1. In monostatic configuration, in receive chain, the Rf signal coming from the circulator is passed through a fixed attenuator of 10dB. This is not the case in bistatic configuration. What is the function of the attenuator? Is this for the transmit leakage from the anntena, to avoid compression? Will this attenuator also reduces sensitivity of the receiver?
2. How do you determine how much attenuation is needed in the receive chain?
