RF Limmiter

Hello to all the good people here.
In an application that i am working on is a HSMP3813 limmiter.
How can i know from the datasheet at which RF power (in dBm) it will limit the input signal power to my card. How much input power it can endure. In which frequencies it can work.(Will it be usefull at 2-3GHz)

HSMP3813 is basically PIN diode this means that it needs detector to power it. So the limiting power is depend on the detector circuit than this device.

Share your schematic to advice you better.

There is no detector in my application and the limiter should limit the RF Power .
Basically in the apllication the input of the signal is connected directly to pin 3 of HSMP3813 and the other two pins are grounded.There is also parallel inductor which is connected to pin 3 and with other side to Ground. And from there the signal goes to filter which can be damaged at signals higher then 1W.

The short answer is, you can not know. You can buy a reel of these diodes (manufactured at the same time), and do a test on what limiting power they turn on at. The limiting power is a function of the PIN diodes intrinsic layer thickness, which is not something they are going to control for limiting applications in a diode designed for attenuators.

You might want to choose a different diode, as the thermal resistance of these puppies is 500 degC per watt in the SOT23 package--not a good choice for a 1 watt limiter application!

You might want to experiment around with different topologies. Kspalla points out that you can use a schottky diode to help to turn on the limiter diode at a more predictable power level. You can also use two limiter diodes spaced quarterwave apart to do the same thing.
