bi directional antenna

Hi,

I want to design a bidirectional antenna with range of 9-10 kms with gain of 9dB. Please tell me how can I do this?

Antenna's doesnt have a communication range. It all depends on the factors like Power transmitted, transmission line losses and SWR. Just a simple Dipole will give you the specified gain. Good luck

Actually i want to design an antenna for a wireless access point.

can you tell me, what is your frequency? "pranam77" have true, it is not only about antenna. What is your power source?

9 dBi upto 23 dBi external 2.4/5 GHz WLAN antennas are standard accessory available from various manufacturers. They are mainly designed as planar PCB antennas. For higher directivities, horn antenna and reflector combinations should be superior.

I assume, that above 20 dBi gain and unrestricted visibility are required for a 10 km link.

But will bidirectional antenna work for a WiFi or should I change my plan to Omni-directional?

I told my opinion, that a high gain respectively high directivity antenna is needed to achieve the range. This can't work with an omnidirectional or "bidirectional" (dipole-like) antenna.

Hi, I think, that do omnidirectional antenna with gain of 9 dBi will be problem, or you know some type of antenna with this parameter (omnidirectional and 9dBi) ?

Your question is not well defined and that is why you are getting such a wide range of answers. That will just lead to further confusion,

I recommend you run down a basic antenna text to get an idea of how to bound the question and then ask it while providing additional characteristics. The first hint is to provide the frequency and bandwidth you are after.

I want to go for 2.4 GHz and 54 Mbps.

As I am a newbie to Antennas, having only the basic idea, so as you said, I will need the basic text for my requirements. Can you suggest some good text for me.....
