Looking for info on tesla coil type thing

Hi,

Can anyone guide me as to how to make a small tesla coil type thing which can light maybe a tubelight or flourescent bulb from a distance. Not a great distance, just 2 feet away would be great. How is this done please ? Ive seen a small gadget like this about the size of a shoe box making a 4 ft tubelight which was just placed atop it to glow. Can i make one like this ? How ?
